The management and team at Monolith comprise from a diverse and vibrant mix of design, engineering, surveying and draughting backgrounds. The Company was created to address specific design needs in the mining and industrial sectors, where it benefits from its accumulative experience with international best practice and expertise in the mining and construction sectors. We are driven to seek optimum efficiency and reliability at the best possible quality for our Clients.

We work with registered engineers and project managers to provide a full scope of services ranging from conceptual process, mechanical, structural, and civil design, to detailing and execution drawings. We have the capability to create analytical and physical models for Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD). This is supported by 4D construction sequencing and simulation. 4D simulations engage project teams and owners to better understand subject matter and comprehend the outcomes and performance parameters of a specific project. Most shortcomings and flaws can be identified and corrected in such a virtual environment prior to build execution, thus saving time and construction cost.

Our service offering is furthermore extended with our Project Lifecycle Management (PLM) approach, where we capitalise on a project’s comprehensive design data with our ability to structure that as the foundation of operational management and 4D SCADA platforms.


CEO, Carel Van der Walt

The CEO, Carel van der Walt, is a former SAP Special Task Force Operator & Instructor, an entrepreneur with strong innovative, start-up, creative, spatial, analytical, organizational, negotiation and management skills. He gained international business experience since 1999 and manages geographic diverse software development and 3D design teams on a regular basis on projects with extremely tight deadlines. He excels at problem solving and IP development in software, robotics, and (mobile) biometrics with international patents awarded, pending, and under development. He takes ownership and accepts responsibility of each project he chooses to become involved with, and have a sound record of successful delivery. He has a methodological approach and attention to detail, skilled in PM Bok and its integration within Business Process Management, with sound knowledge in IDef0, Six Sigma, TQM and TPS.

His interests tend to lean more towards software and solution architecture, business process optimization, parametric 3D/4D design and innovation, with applications in Constructive Simulation, Enterprise Risk & Facilities Management, Building Performance Analysis and Mining Sectors. He subscribes to a healthy lifestyle, and is an experienced scuba diver, skydiver, and IronMan triathlete.
